On Tuesday, July 8th, 2014 join United For Ukraine, SUSK, and #Digitalmaidan in a #BoycottPutinNow twitter storm! For more information as to why, visit www.boycottputinnow.com.
From the organizers:
"United with Ukraine, the Ukrainian Canadian Students’ Union (SUSK), and #DigitalMaidan ask you to join the "Boycott Putin Now!" Twitter Storm: Help us take the 2018 World Cup away from Russia. On Tuesday July 8th, 12pm ET, our Twitter storm will educate FIFA's sponsors about Putin's human rights crimes.
The World Cup promotes peace and anti-racism; Putin proudly opposes its values. Eugene Melnyk, Chairman of the Campaign Advisory Committee for United with Ukraine, talked to the Ottawa Citizen about the international boycott: 'We have Presidents and Prime Ministers of Western nations looking for additional economic sanctions to further punish and isolate Russia. And, we have this opportunity standing right in front of us to have FIFA strip Russia of its 2018 World Cup hosting rights which is estimated to be worth $20 billion to that country. I can think of more than 100 countries that would be far more deserving of that $20 billion than Russia.'"
The Ukrainian peoples' organized, effective, and passionate efforts to raise awareness of their struggle on Euromaidan proved to the world a many number of things; one of which was the outstanding power that social media has to raise awareness of issues, encourage discourse and participation, and change outcomes of events that have a real impact on peoples' lives. The crimes and hypocrisy of the Putin regime should not go without consequence!

While we may not have all been able to walk through the barricades or offer our support directly to the brave souls on the streets of Kyiv and all over Ukraine, we can ensure that their efforts and hopes for a better future persevere and continue to inspire others around the world by spreading their message!
