1st Golf Tourney for St. Vladimir's Institute

Congratulations to the organizers of the 1st annual St. Vladimir's Institute Fall Golf Classic! What was possibly the last "major" Ukrainian golf tourney of the season took place at a picturesque though very challenging golfcourse in Ancaster Ontario. This correspondent doesn't remember every seeing as many ravines at literally every other hole. And at one point, there was major confusion about which green was attached to which fairway. Still, it was a thouroughly enjoyable outing, though we strongly recommend doing what we did - car pool it out there unless you live nearby.

Our "sevensome" John Znaczko, Christine Kuzyk, Lesia Chyczij,
Yuriy Diakunchak, Iryna Revutska, Ihor Saplyvyj and Lesia Saplyvyj

UCU was very pleased to be a key sponsor of this event and looks forward to further cooperation with the Institute. Plus a word to the avid golfer, wild horses will not keep us away from this tournament next year!

Summer Photo Contest 2011 - Deadline fast approaching!

We are almost at the end of the Summer Photo Contrest and what a great ride it has been. We've had a few people take the lead back and forth, we had one person bow out due to personal reasons (it's like a political campaign or something!) and we've had a late surge from a couple of contenders battling it out for first place in the People's Choice category!

This is too exciting, and yet, there is still time for more contestants to join so you never know what might happen ove rthe next day and a bit.

In the meantime, here are links to the five candidates that are still standing: Vote by clicking on the photos (this will take you to our facebook page and then click the "like" button on the photo or photos that you like the best - easy peasy).

Toronto Ukrainian Festival 2011 Recap!

Serhiy "Foma" Fomenko of Mandry
Once more the Toronto Ukrainian Festival ended as a great success! It is sometimes hard to believe how it has grown over the last 15 years from its humble beginnings in a tiny parking lot at the corner of Jane and Bloor. Now it is a leviathan stretching many blocks from the Jane all the way past Runnymede by a couple of blocks.

Anyway, Ukrainian Credit Union Limited is thirlled to have once again brought you the headline act at the festival - Mandry! Their concert on Saturday night was simply the best. We've got lots of pictures on our facebook page:

We will also have videos on our facebook page in a day or two hopefully!

Things you didn't know about UCU members...

Spot light on:

Marta Tryshak

Marta has been a member at Ukrainian Credit Union since childhood. "From Fat Cat, through JumpStart and now Campus Classic Ukrainian Credit Union has been with me every step of the way!" says Marta.

She has had a flair for entrepreneurship since an early age when she used to put earnings from her lemonade stand into her Youth Unlimited account at Ukrainian Credit Union. "It's the bank I trust," she says.

Well, Marta did not stop at running a lemonade stand. Now she is a rising force in the fashion blogging world. If you haven't run across her blog withlovegabrielle.com yet, we recommend a visit now.

The Story of withlovegabrielle.com: “Where Fabulous Meets Everyday”

Named after the alluring Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, withlovegabrielle.com was created by Marta Tryshak in June 2008. Marta—a 23 year old, who was born in Ukraine and raised in Toronto—lives by Chanel’s words of wisdom, “women should be two things: fabulous and classy.” A University of Toronto graduate with a specialist in art history and architecture, whose love for aesthetically pleasing things extends beyond the profession. With Love… found its beginning as a creative outlet of a student and grew into a sensation thanks to devoted fans.

When Marta is not looking for the next fabulous idea to share with her beloved readers, she is actively engaged in Canadian social media and fashion community. As a young entrepreneur, she turned her passion into a business that has partnered with the likes of Coty Canada, Calvin Klein, Smirnoff Canada and Kenneth Cole to name a few. As a regular attendee at Toronto Fashion Week as a guest of a designer, Marta is known for her support of local talent. She was also a participating member of the largely popular South by Southwest Interactive Conference in Austin, Texas. Looking to expand her horizons abroad, she is using social media to take her readers on an ever evolving story of fashion, style, food and travel. Withlovegabrielle.com is an ongoing story of a girl in search of fabulous in the simplest things of everyday life!

This Saturday (September 17) at the Ukrainian Festival on Bloor Street, Marta will be helping Ukrainian Credit Union launch a great promotion where one lucky member will get the opportunity to win a $1,000 shopping spree with their own personal shopper—Marta Tryshak—along to offer fashion advice. You can read more by clicking UCU Mastercard® promotion. Come visit our booth on Saturday between 12:30 and 2:30pm if you'd like to meet Marta in person.
