The 6th annual St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church Golf Tournament took place on a beautiful day. The recent Toronto heat wave broke the night before saving the golfers from sun stroke and heat prostration. Ukrainian Credit Union Limited is proud to once again be the lead sponsor of the event.

In defence of the Ukrainian language

The member organizations of the Canadian Conference in Support of Ukraine have called on the Ukrainian Canadian community of greater Toronto and surrounding communities to gather on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Consulate General of Ukraine, (2275 Lakeshore Blvd. W in Etobicoke) to rally in defence of the Ukrainian language and against Russia’s imperialist ambitions. Ukrainian Canadians and friends of Ukraine will voice their collective support for the mounting protests throughout Ukraine, where tens of thousands of citizens are demanding that the authoritarian regime in Kyiv respect the sanctity of the Ukrainian language as the single constitutionally mandated language of the country and for an end to Russia’s imperialist designs on Ukraine. Russia is intent on re-imposing its colonial control over Ukraine similar to that of Czarist and Soviet-Russia from the 17th through the 20th centuries, when speaking the Ukrainian language contravened government policy and was punishable with ostracization and even arrest. See CHRONOLOGY OF PROHIBITIONS OF THE UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE at: http://www.lucorg.com/UserFiles/File/Prohibitions.pdf

Matura Class of 2012 sends a thank you.

Thank you very much and we all wish you the best of luck!

New Traditions Island Music Festival

June 30th 2012 brought us The New Traditions Island Music festival that was a collaboration between three local arts organizations—Whippersnapper Gallery, Fedora Upside-Down, and Artscape Gibraltar Point—New Traditions was 12 hours of indie music, installations, dance workshops, performance art, face painting, a “puppet slam,” fresh food, swimming, fireworks, and bonfires.

Taking place on Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island, the sold out festival was a day-long adventure in musical discovery, beach-side relaxing, and folk workshops.

Many of the highlights from the day were Ukrainian focused. Box Outside Storytelling Collective presented a performance piece based on the traditions of Ivana Kupala and Tangi Ropars conducted a Ukrainian folk dance workshop.

The ladies of Kosa Kolektiv had their “Kosa Kafe” setup where one could relax and enjoy some home brewed tea made from locally grown herbs and flowers, or participate in their wreath making workshop.

Check out the rest of the event photos HERE in our Facebook album.
