Holodomor Food Drive

Ukrainian Credit Union Limited is holding our annual Holodomor commemoration food drive in November. The food drive starts on November 1 and ends on November 30.

November is Holodomor Remembrance month. It is a time to commemorate the 1932-1933 Act of Genocide by Famine engineered by the Soviet Stalinist regime, an effort designed to exterminate the Ukrainian nation by means of deliberate starvation. This year Canadians are marking the 81st anniversary of the Holodomor – when an estimated several million people died at the hands of starvation – with candlelight vigils, informational exhibits, and public seminars and lectures. In Canada, the Federal Government and several provincial legislatures have recognized the Holodomor as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.

As in previous years, Ukrainian Credit Union Limited is commemorating this terrible event by holding a food drive at its branches. Members of Ukrainian Credit Union are encouraged to bring non-perishable goods to their local branch. The collected items will be donated to local food banks in the communities each of our branches serve – in Etobicoke, Hamilton, London, Mississauga, North York, Oshawa, Ottawa, St. Catharines, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Toronto, and Windsor.

We invite our members to bring food items such as pasta, rice, peanut butter, jam and canned goods like beans, tuna and soup as well as treats such as cookies, children’s cereals and pudding. The donations will be presented to local food banks upon the conclusion of the food drive at the end of November.
