UCC Statement on Day of Unity of Ukraine

22 January 2015 - Ottawa - The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) issued the following statement on the anniversary of the Day of Unity (День Соборності) of Ukraine:

"The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) greets Ukrainians the world over on this anniversary of the Day of Unity of Ukraine. On 22 January 1919, Ukrainian lands were united into a single independent state.

This anniversary reminds us all of how arduous and difficult the road to Ukraine's independence and statehood was, and of the terrible price the people of Ukraine had to pay to ultimately secure their independence. Today we remember and honour those who, throughout the centuries, have made the highest sacrifice so that the people of Ukraine may live in freedom.

This year's anniversary of the Day of Unity of Ukraine has taken on even greater significance. Russia once again, as it has so many times throughout history, wages war against the rights of the people of Ukraine to self-determination and freedom. The people of Ukraine are united today as never before in defence of these unalienable rights. It is because of this unity, and with God's help, that the people of Ukraine will prevail.

Today, as we honour those who gave their lives for Ukraine's freedom, we pause to honour and remember those who today must again take up arms to defend Ukraine. On behalf of the Ukrainian Canadian community, we say to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine - we are with you and we will do all in our power to ensure that your liberty is protected.

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to Her Heroes!"

CALL TO ACTION! - Support the international campaign #FreeSavchenko - Monday, January 26 is the international day of support for Ukrainian pilot and MP Nadiya Savchenko, who continues a hunger strike in protest of her illegal detention by the Russian Federation. Please participate in public demonstrations organized in your community.

Заява Конґресу Українців Канади з нагоди Дня Соборності України

22-го січня, 2015 р. - Оттава - Конґрес Українців Канади (Конґрес)опублікував наступну заяву з нагоди Дня Соборності України:

"Конґрес Українців Канади вітає українців по цілому світі з нагоди Дня Соборності України. 22-го січня, 1919 р, українські землі були з'єднані в соборну, незалежну державу.

Ця річниця пригадує нам усім яким складним та важким був шлях до української незалежності та державності, та страшну ціну, яку народ України змушений був заплатити, щоб остаточно забезпечити свою незалежність. Сьогодні ми згадуємо та вшановуємо всіх тих, хто впродовж століть, віддали своє життя, щоб український народ міг жити в свободі.

Цього року, День Соборності набрав ще більшого значення. Росія знова, як це було багато разів в історії, веде війну проти права українського народу на самовизначення та свододу. Народ України сьогодні як ніколи об'єднаний в захисті цих невід'ємних прав. Саме через цю єдність, з Божою допомогою, український народ переможе.

Сьогодні, коли ми вшановуємо тих, хто віддали своє життя за свободу України, ми вшановуємо й згадуємо всіх, хто сьогодні змушені брати зброю в руки щоб захистити Україну. Від імені українсько-канадської громади - ми заявляємо нашим братам й сестрам на України - ми з Вами, й ми зробимо все в нашій силі щоб запевнити, що Ваша свобода буде захищена.
Слава Україні! Героям Слава!"
