I had the pleasure of taking part in the Student-Business Networking Event held by the Paul Yuzyk Institute in Ottawa on November 7, 2015. Congratulations to Vicki Karpiak and all the organizers of the UNF Ottawa-Gatineau for putting this event together! Amazing presenters with great mentoring experiences to share with equally amazing students and young professionals.
The range of expertise and career interests present was very broad including finance, health care, IT, communications consulting, law, the military, international education and development, and several from among both mentors and mentees enriched the dialogue with their strong entrepreneurial drive. Student participants were predominantly drawn from Carleton University, U of Ottawa and Algonquin College, while prominent local business and professional mentors were joined from beyond Ottawa by guest speaker Marc Marzotto, Associate Portfolio Manager at Toronto’s Gryphon Investment Counsel, UNF Montreal President Dr. Artem Luhovy, and Dr. George Foty who also came in from Toronto, undeterred by his return home from Ukraine at 3 a.m. earlier in the day. The event was very capably emceed by Katie Wyslocky, a fourth year public affairs and policy management student at Carleton University.
I for one was left exhilarated at the conclusion of the program by the overwhelming talent and potential that was gathered in the room. Formidable! Very proud that Ukrainian Credit Union Limited was associated with this event as a lead sponsor, and with the support provided by our UCU Ottawa Branch manager Oksana Zbyranyk who was also on hand as one of the mentors.
