Building Community

We have now posted all of the first batch of clips of people who contributed to our Building Community video. The series demonstrates how important a vital and thriving community is to our continued existence. Several dozen of our members who are active in all walks of life came together last spring to help record the various organizations, causes and individuals that Ukrainian Credit Union Limited has been proud to sponsor over the years.

The original full-length video shown at the AGM

Over the course of a cold and snowy weekend, we a gathered in a tiny condo near the famous Drake Hotel in the trendy Queen West neighbourhood just east of Parkdale. One by one, or sometimes, two by two, our volunteers, young and old, filed through the narrow space to get their faces touched up for the camera by our makeup artists, then into the waiting room to compose themselves and then out in front of the cameras.

If you haven't seen these videos yet, this post gives you a recap of all the ones that we have posted on our YouTube Channel so far.

Peter Gatti on raising funds for cancer research

Chrystyna Mackenzie our Creative Director, who conceived of the project, was on hand to help anyone who was a bit camera shy to come out of their shell and talk about their work and why it is important to them and their community.

Nadya Pirog remembers Camp Sokil

Out of hours and hours of footage, we distilled a video that was shown last year at our AGM. Since then, we've gone back over the footage to create short vignettes of each of the interviewees. Since the fall, you've seen these in rotation on Kontakt TV. Now we've uploaded them all to YouTube.

Ernie McCullough - promoter of Kyiv Chamber Choir

Bohdan Dolban on the value of Saturday school

Now we will dive back into the footage and see what community groups and initiatives we will highlight in the next batch of videos. Still quite a few people left to go.

  1. Hmm it seems like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long)
so I guess I'll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I'm thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I'm still new to the whole thing. Do you have any helpful hints for rookie blog writers? I'd genuinely appreciate it.

  2. I didn't notice the original comment. However since the comment section is moderated it typically won't appear unless one of the moderators approves it mainly in order to avoid spam comments.

Anyway, we're relatively new to the blog thing too. Glad you enjoyed it. We try to post things that we think our readers will enjoy. The statistical tools offered by blogger aren't super sophisticated but they do offer enough insight about what attracts readers and what does't. Not sure of that helps or not.
