Lesya Babiy

You may recognize Lesya Babiy from our Mississauga Branch or from one of UCU’s recent web ads on local blogs!  Lesya has been with the Ukrainian Credit Union Limited since October 2006. Starting as a part-time teller Lesya worked her way up through various positions to finally reach one of her personal goals, becoming Branch Manager!

Lesya is originally from Ivano-Frankivsk where she studied music at the State Musical College, receiving a Bachelor for her studies in Piano. Unbeknownst to many, Lesya is also a very talented singer and from a young age was active in the arts. Lesya was not willing to stop there with her education. She continued her studies at the Financial and Economic Institute to fulfill her growing interest in finance, receiving a Bachelor of Accounting.

Before settling in Toronto, Lesya and her family lived in Chicago for 4 years where she taught herself English and worked as a Retail Manager. On coming to Canada in 2005, she wasted no time becoming part of the UCU Team!

You can catch Lesya working in the garden or cooking something up in the kitchen for her family when she’s not at her desk. She waits for the day that she is the owner of the winning lotto ticket but until then keeps growing her RRSP, so that one day she can carry out her dream of traveling the world. As a goal-oriented individual, Lesya enjoys helping people fulfill their dreams. Whether it is helping members find a mortgage for their new home, building their RRSP or helping them manage a savings plan, she is ready to help you achieve your goals! Scholarship for students in business and finance

                      

UCU wants to give you $2, 500 to pursue your career in business, finance, banking, IT, marketing, computer science and wealth management!

The UCUYKC Board of Directors' Memorial Scholarship in Memory of Walter Sytnyk is available to a post-secondary student of Ukrainian heritage who is currently enrolled full-time in a field of study leading to a career in business or finance. 

Mr. Sytnyk (1907-2000) led Ukrainian Credit Union Limited through its early years, serving as its first President of the Board from 1944 to 1979. To read more about Mr. Sytnyk and to apply for the scholarship, please click on the red Apply Now link below.

Oleksiy Slyepukhov

Oleksiy Slyepukhov is a Member Services Representative in our North York branch and has been with Ukrainian Credit Union Limited since the spring of 2010. Before coming to Ukrainian Credit Union Limited, Oleksiy worked as an Investment Advisor’s Associate at RBC Dominion Securities.

Oleksiy was born in Kyiv where he took an active part in the rapidly emerging “civil society” of the last two decades. He attended the School of Journalism in Kyiv, sang in a rock-n-roll band called Krepatura and took part in several theatrical groups that focused on modern comedic plays.

Oleksiy is a bit of a history buff and enjoys experiencing total immersion in historical events. While living in Kyiv, he participated in a historical role playing group that recreated famous historical battles such as the Battle of Falkirk in which William Wallace clashed with the dastardly King Edward I of England.

After graduating from university, Oleksiy worked for a time as a graphic designer. He also moonlighted as a croupier and cashier at the River Palace Casino in Kyiv and later, upon his move to Canada, at the Blue Heron Casino in Port Perry Ontario.

Oleksiy also has an interest in martial arts and studies a form of boxing called Muay Thai. He’s been at it for the past two years and often takes part in in-house competitions at the gym to which he belongs.

He is continuing his studies at Ryerson University, majoring in Finance (Investments).

St. Joseph's Family Malanka

Once again, the St. Joseph's Family Malanka was a tremendous success. Hundreds of people of all ages attended the annual event held at Le Treport Hall. The highlight of the evening for the children was the appearance of Fat Cat who represented Ukrainian Credit Union Limited, the event's key sponsor.

Ukrainian Credit Union develops business leaders of the future

One of Ukrainian Credit Union Limited's major contributions to the community is the committment to help its employees develop management skills and to grow professionally. UCU has been doing this through the Management Development Program which has been active since 2003. The Management Development Program is designed to expose participants to various parts of the credit union’s operations, and to develop their leadership skills.

This year 7 new participants have been chosen from among our staff. This means that you will see some changes at a few of our branches in the next few weeks.

At Mississauga (Cawthra) branch Lesia Babiy (formerly based at our Bloor Branch) is assuming the position of Acting Branch Manager, and Svitlana Rudenko, is moving from Etobicoke to become the new Acting Loans Officer at Mississauga. Maria Chlapak, currently a Member Services Representative at Mississauga, will move into the role of Acting Member Services Officer. Svitlana Mazepa, formerly the Loans Officer at Mississauga (Cawthra), will now assume the position of Financial Services representative at the So-Use Division branch in Mississauga (Bristol)

At Bloor West Village (Armadale) Margaryta Kulyk will assume the role of Acting Member Services Officer and Lyudmyla Petrunko, formerly at Etobicoke branch, will take the position of Acting Loans Officer. Lina Rymar, who was formerly a Member Service Representative at Bloor will be moving to Etobicoke branch to assume the role of Acting Member Services Officer.

Since one of the goals of the program is to expose employees to various areas of the business, some of the above mentioned program participants will eventually move on to new roles either at the branch level or in corporate departments. We wish the participants all the best!

Pryymayemo Koliadnykiv!

A group of Koliadnyky (Christmas Carollers) from St. Josaphat's Catholic School came by our So-Use Division branch on Bloor Street today to sing a beautiful selection of songs and to wish us all a happy, healthy, wealthy 2011!
